Bemidji junior stuns in varsity debut, Jacks win two matches at quadrangular
Bemidji High School junior Holly Snobl made a breakthrough varsity debut at the season opening girls wrestling quadrangular on December 2, 2025, going three wins with her first varsity pin. Her performance helped Bemidji to two match wins and signaled early depth for a program that relies on growing participation and strong leadership.

Holly Snobl entered her first varsity action at the Bemidji High School gymnasium on December 2 and left as one of the day s most talked about wrestlers. The junior went three wins with no losses, recording two decisions and delivering her first varsity pin against Brainerd s Isla Porter. Snobl s mat work contributed to Bemidji victories over Thief River Falls by a 39 to 21 score and Moorhead by a 39 to 36 score before the Jacks dropped a 41 to 33 decision to Brainerd.
The season opening quadrangular served as an early test of depth for Bemidji s girls program. Junior captain Taylor Merschman dominated her weights, pinning all three opponents she faced, while teammates Jadyn Eichberg and Tahliya Little also posted three wins and no losses on the day. Those performances combined with Snobl s emergence gave Bemidji two wins and one loss for the event and a clear indication that several wrestlers are ready to carry the team through the early part of the season.
Coach Rance Bahr highlighted Snobl s instincts on the mat, saying she showed "intangibles" such as positioning, clock awareness and composure that are typically seen in more seasoned competitors. The coach s assessment underscores the value of situational awareness in wrestling where small decisions determine match outcomes and team points matter in dual meet scoring.

Snobl reflected on her unexpected success after the event. "I did not expect to go 3-0 at all, and I did not expect to get a pin tonight either." Her achievement is significant for community observers tracking the growth of girls wrestling in Beltrami County. A strong showing by underclass and mid level wrestlers helps broaden the talent pool, supports competitive balance within the region, and can boost participation at youth and middle school levels.
For Bemidji, the quadrangular offered both affirmation and areas to refine. The team demonstrated finishing ability through multiple pins and resilience in narrow matches, while the loss to Brainerd highlighted tactical adjustments needed against established rivals. Local fans and school stakeholders can view the early season results as evidence that the program is developing talent and building momentum for the weeks ahead.
