The Bemidji Senior Center is keeping its calendar lively with two free bingo afternoons in May, a small event that still carries outsized value for older adults looking for company, routine and an easy place to spend a few hours in downtown Bemidji. The games are set for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, and Tuesday, May 26, at 216 Third St. NW, and the activity is open to the community.

Bingo fits the Senior Center’s role as more than a place that hosts programs for a narrow group of members. The game is familiar, low-pressure and easy to join, which makes it useful for people who want a social afternoon without a big commitment or a price tag. In a community where reliable gathering spaces matter, a twice-monthly schedule gives residents a reason to return and newcomers a simple way to walk in and take part.

The May bingo dates also sit alongside a wider run of public programming at the same address. The center is scheduled to hold its monthly pancake breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, before the bingo sessions later in the month. The center is also listed as hosting Matter of Balance classes from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. throughout April and May, adding a health-focused piece to the calendar that reaches beyond entertainment alone.

Earlier events at the same site show the center’s broader community reach. A fraud-prevention presentation by Minnesota Aging Pathways was scheduled there on March 25, and a Master Gardeners talk was set for April 1. Together, those events show a steady stream of public programming centered at 216 Third St. NW, a familiar address for many in Bemidji and Beltrami County.

For older adults, family members and neighbors who are looking for something inexpensive and social in mid-to-late May, the Senior Center’s bingo afternoons offer an accessible option. The repeated listings suggest a venue that is building regular connection, not just filling a calendar, and that matters in a town where those low-cost opportunities can help keep people engaged with one another.
