Bemidji State President John Hoffman leads For the North tour Feb. 9-12
Bemidji State President John L. Hoffman will tour the Iron Range and north-central Minnesota Feb. 9-12 to promote a $25 million "For the North" campaign that aims to boost students and local partnerships.

President John L. Hoffman will lead Bemidji State University's "For the North" Presidential Road Show through Minnesota's Iron Range and north-central communities Feb. 9-12, part of a campaign the university says will raise $25 million for student success, facility upgrades, faculty excellence, and enrollment and recruitment.
Bemidji State announced the February visits on Feb. 4 as the road show continues its outreach to alumni, donors, business and education leaders. The effort is designed to give university leadership opportunities to meet locally, perform industry site visits, and explore collaboration and cooperation with community partners across northern Minnesota and bordering states.
The "For the North" campaign was announced in August 2025 and the Presidential Road Show began in October 2025. Since the tour began, Bemidji State reports it has visited 11 communities in Minnesota and North Dakota: Bagley, Red Lake, Thief River Falls, Fargo, Grand Forks, Greenbush, Roseau, Bemidji, Warroad, Baudette, and International Falls. The university highlights a mix of public alumni socials and private meetings; past community events have included a Thief River Falls alumni social at the Piggy BBQ and a Fargo social at Brewhalla, each beginning at 4 p.m. and featuring food and t-shirt giveaways.
President John L. Hoffman characterized the campaign as a “fundamentally transformative opportunity” for Bemidji State and the broader northern Minnesota region to support students and elevate the university’s mission and impact. University materials describe the road show as “a tour of northern Minnesota and bordering states to promote BSU’s ‘For the North’ fundraising campaign, announced in August 2025, and to give BSU leadership opportunities to meet with business, industry, service and education leaders to explore opportunities for collaboration and cooperation.”

Local impact in Beltrami County could be multidimensional. The campaign’s stated priorities target student success and recruitment, which could increase enrollment at Bemidji State and supply more local employers with graduates in key fields. Facility upgrades and faculty investments can improve campus capacity and research partnerships that benefit regional businesses. Industry site visits and meetings with business leaders during the road show create an opening for workforce development conversations and potential private-public collaborations that may bring training, internships, or applied research to area firms.
Some itinerary details for the Feb. 9-12 leg remain sparse in the materials provided; a Brainerd Lakes Alumni Social is referenced in university listings but full schedule, venues and public access information were not included. Residents interested in attending or tracking outcomes should follow announcements from Bemidji State University and the BSU Alumni & Foundation for confirmed event times and locations.
If the "For the North" campaign reaches its $25 million target, the university says funds will be directed toward scholarships, upgraded facilities and strengthened faculty support, investments that could influence local hiring, student retention, and regional economic development in the years ahead.
