Lake Bemidji State Park at 3401 State Park Road NE announced a full calendar of January events aimed at families and children, beginning with a First Day Snowshoe to the Bog on Thursday January 1 at 10 a.m. to noon. That two mile round trip to the Bog Boardwalk will offer snowshoes for loan, and will proceed as a hike if snow depth is insufficient. The program meets at the Bog Walk Trail trailhead across County State Aid Highway 22.

Programming continues with The Story Tree Preschool Program on Saturday January 3 from 10 to 10 30 a.m. This nature story time is designed for ages three to five with activities that include songs, stories, learning Ojibwe and a craft. Adults must accompany children to this session. On Saturday January 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. the park will host Brrrmidji Kids Can Ice Fish, giving children ages eight to fifteen a chance to try ice fishing on Lake Bemidji with equipment and heated shelters provided. Organizers note the program may move indoors if temperatures become extreme.

Additional offerings in January include winter nature art and Snow tastic Science activities on Monday January 19, targeted hands on experiences for children, and Snow Stompers, a kid s snowshoe adventure on Saturday January 24 for ages seven and up where participants can borrow snowshoes and explore park trails. The month closes with a Glow in the Snow Candlelight Snowshoe on Saturday January 31, an evening event featuring luminaries, refreshments and a campfire at the Lavinia Group Camp and Visitor Center, with limited snowshoe rentals available.

Many programs depend on adequate snow depth and safe conditions and may be canceled if conditions are unsafe. Participants should dress for winter weather and plan for last minute changes. To register or to request accommodations contact park staff by emailing christa.drake@state.mn.us or calling (218) 308 2328.

For Beltrami County residents these events provide accessible outdoor recreation and environmental education close to home, support cultural learning through Ojibwe language exposure, and contribute to local winter activity opportunities that can help sustain seasonal visitation to park facilities. The park s clear contact and accommodation information aims to ensure equitable participation across the community.
