Northwoods Caregivers schedules Bemidji respite events for local families
Northwoods Caregivers is offering two Bemidji mornings of respite, giving caregivers a two-hour break or a chance to join Memory Cafe with lunch.

Caregivers in Bemidji will have two scheduled chances to hand off the pressure of dementia care and take a breath. Northwoods Caregivers is lining up Memory Cafe and Respite events for Saturday, May 16, and Saturday, June 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Adult Day Services, 620 Carr Lake Road SE.
The events are built around a simple choice that many families in Beltrami County need but do not always have access to: drop off a loved one for safe, supportive respite with trained staff, or stay on site and join the Memory Cafe. The program is aimed at people experiencing memory changes, and a light lunch will be provided.
Northwoods Caregivers says the service is open to primary caregivers caring for an elderly family member, friend or other loved one. That matters in a county where caregiving often has to fit around work shifts, medical visits and other family obligations, while the emotional strain of watching memory loss progress can leave spouses and adult children isolated as well as exhausted.
State aging and health agencies describe respite care as short-term relief for the primary caregiver, and it can be arranged during the day, evenings or weekends. The Alzheimer’s Association says the goal is temporary rest for the caregiver while the person living with Alzheimer’s continues to receive care in a safe environment. In practical terms, that can mean a morning to make appointments, run errands or simply step away without worrying about supervision.

Northwoods Caregivers also provides transportation, shopping assistance and other support services, giving families more than one way to get help when care needs start to outgrow what one person can manage alone. Its support groups are held in Bemidji, Blackduck, Red Lake and Cass Lake, and more information is available from Jennifer at (218) 333-8097.
The organization, based in Bemidji, has served several counties and Tribal communities in Northern Minnesota for more than 25 years, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. Adult Day Services, the site of the events, describes itself as a long-running Bemidji program focused on healthy aging and wellness, which makes the Carr Lake Road location a familiar place for families already looking for practical help.
For caregivers trying to keep work, appointments and daily life moving while supporting someone with memory loss, the May 16 and June 6 events turn respite into a specific, local option at 620 Carr Lake Road SE.
