People's Church Open House Showcases Renovations in Bemidji on March 20
People's Church will open its doors March 20 to show off a new kitchen and larger dining hall built during a months-long renovation that kept its nightly shelter running.

People's Church, a multicultural and Indigenous ministry on America Avenue NW that runs both a nightly emergency shelter and a daily meal program, will invite the public to walk through its newly renovated building Friday, March 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The open house at 824 America Avenue NW will give Bemidji residents a first look at upgrades completed after a construction project that ran through the summer and fall of 2025. Among the most significant additions are a larger dining hall and a new kitchen, part of what the church describes as a broad set of new and expanded amenities.
Construction was designed to avoid disrupting shelter operations: the church was able to reopen as a nightly shelter in December 2025 while work wrapped up at the opposite end of the building from the shelter. That sequencing kept the emergency shelter available to guests throughout much of the project.
Attendees at the open house can expect refreshments and a quilt raffle. Tickets cost $5, and buyers do not need to be present at the event to win.
The March 20 open house runs three hours, closing at 2 p.m. The church sits on America Avenue NW in Bemidji, and the event is open to the public.
