Pets Plus Donates Over 2,000 Pounds of Pet Food to Bemidji Food Shelf
Pets Plus of Bemidji donated more than 2,000 lbs of pet food to the Bemidji Community Food Shelf, helping families keep their animals amid rising food insecurity across Beltrami County.

Pets Plus of Bemidji delivered more than 2,000 pounds of pet food to the Bemidji Community Food Shelf over the past month, a contribution that addresses one of the quieter but persistent barriers facing households in financial distress: keeping their animals fed.
The donation continues what has become an established pattern of in-kind giving between Pets Plus and the food shelf, part of a broader web of local business partnerships that supplement the nonprofit's operations. For the food shelf, pet food donations carry a practical double benefit: they directly meet a household need while freeing up operating funds for other forms of assistance at a time when demand across northern Minnesota has climbed.
That demand has been driven by sustained inflationary pressure and the ongoing recovery from last summer's windstorm, which struck the region hard and stretched household budgets across Beltrami County. The Bemidji Community Food Shelf has responded by expanding hours and services in recent weeks, making in-kind contributions like this one all the more critical to maintaining that capacity.
The pet food component matters beyond the obvious. Social service providers in the region have long noted that pet-related costs are a real barrier for families trying to stabilize their housing situations, with some households reluctant to seek help if it means giving up a companion animal. Having a consistent supply of donated pet food at the food shelf removes that calculation.
The Bemidji Community Food Shelf continues to accept food, pet supplies, and volunteer support. Specific drop-off times and current needs are available directly through the food shelf.
