The Sustainable Sheep and Fiber Community of Northern Minnesota will host Fiber Gathering Under the Pines at the Clearwaters Life Center, 226 Elm St., Gonvick, with sessions scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. on Jan. 9, Feb. 13 and March 13. The gatherings are free to attend and are designed as informal spaces for teaching fiber-art techniques, sharing projects and encouraging networking among fiber artists across northern Minnesota.
Attendees are asked to bring their own wheel, spindle or other fiber tools. Those who intend to sell fiber or yarn items at the events must obtain a Minnesota ST-19 form prior to selling. Organizers say the gatherings will accommodate both makers who are deepening skills and those exploring fiber arts for the first time. More information is available at sheepcommunity.com or by emailing sustainablesheep@gmail.com.
For local residents, the events offer a low-cost way to access practical instruction and peer support in fiber arts, a traditional craft with renewed interest in rural communities. By providing a recurring, open forum, the gatherings create regular opportunities for artisans to display work, learn new techniques and form working relationships, which can help sustain small-scale craft activity across Beltrami County.
The requirement that sellers obtain a Minnesota ST-19 form highlights an important administrative step for those seeking to monetize handmade goods. Organizers are advising prospective sellers to complete that requirement in advance to ensure compliance with state rules before offering items for sale at the gatherings.

Holding the series at Clearwaters Life Center provides a public venue in Gonvick that connects cultural activity to a community space on Elm Street. Regular programming like these fiber gatherings contributes to broader civic life by encouraging volunteer leadership, peer learning and locally rooted economic activity. For artisans and neighbors, the events represent both a craft resource and a community touchpoint during the winter months.
Participants and prospective sellers can find event details, scheduling updates and contact information at sheepcommunity.com or by emailing sustainablesheep@gmail.com. The series is open to anyone with an interest in fiber arts and intends to be an inclusive, skills-focused resource for the region.
