Oda and Chung Head BIIF Boys Soccer All‑League Teams After Championships
Channing Oda’s last‑minute BIIF DI championship goal capped Hilo’s 10-2-1, 59-16 season; BIIF coaches released All‑BIIF teams on Feb. 18 naming DI and DII honorees.

Channing Oda scored the match‑winning goal in the BIIF Division I championship against Kealakehe in the final three minutes, a finish that helped Hilo close a 10-2-1 season in which the Vikings outscored opponents 59-16 and led the Division I All‑BIIF selections released Feb. 18. BIIF coaches officially voted for these selections.
The DI All‑BIIF roster published with the league release included Aziah Nelson of Waiakea, Brennan Barrientos and Channing Oda of Hilo, Ezekiel Imai of Kealakehe, Kani Tolentino Perry of Hilo, Rayden Handy of Keaʻau, Brayden Heldt and Duke Kapuniai of Kealakehe, Justin AhSing and Kaden Aguilar of Waiakea, Nahiku Anderson of Hilo, Jason Bois of Kealakehe and Luke Laa of Keaʻau. Hilo’s series of selections reflected its island championship and season-long goal differential.
Hilo head coach George Ichimaru praised Oda’s impact following the Jan. 28 match and underscored the senior’s role in late-game moments. “(Oda) is always very competitive and very determined,” Ichimaru said. “He carries the team through his work ethic and his ability to lead by example on the field - never giving up and keeping the team motivated. He’s come in clutch for us many times.”
Division II honors concentrated around Kamehameha Schools‑Hawai‘i, which finished the season 13-1-0 overall and 9-0-0 in BIIF play. The published selections named Lucas Kay‑Wong DII Player of the Year. “Midfielder Kay‑Wong was named DII Player of the Year. Wong scored 15 goals across the season, helping lead the Warriors to a 13‑1‑0 overall record and 9‑0‑0 in the BIIF - with their only loss being in the state championship match against Kauai’s Island School by a narrow score of 1‑0.” Kamehameha had seven players on the Division II list: Lucas Kay‑Wong, Gabe Arquitola, Micah Chung, William Henderson, Connor Gonzalez, Thurston Laa and Jacob Aiona.

Hawaii Preparatory Academy placed multiple players on the DII list after an 8-5-0 overall record and 7-3-0 conference mark. HPA honorees named in the selections included forward Chazz Pagano, midfielders Zach Montgomery and Duke Waiau, backs Kauila Kapuniai and Matteo Larrua and goalkeeper Vasco Frietas. Makua Lani Christian Academy senior midfielder Gavin Pries and Honokaʻa senior forward Teejay Teo also appeared among Division II recognitions.
The published materials contain a discrepancy on Player of the Year designations that editors should reconcile before archival citation. A photo caption accompanying the selections identifies Oda as the BIIF’s DII Player of the Year, while body text in the same set of materials describes Oda as taking home DI Player of the Year honors and the Division II listing and the 15‑goal Player of the Year attribution is given to Lucas Kay‑Wong in the released selections. For the official, final Player of the Year designations and the complete honorable‑mentions list, consult the BIIF release dated Feb. 18.
