Police Seek Armed and Dangerous South Kona Man Last Seen in Ocean View
A South Kona man with a prior assault conviction was spotted fleeing a home in Ocean View on Tuesday; police say Joshua Amaral, 46, is armed and dangerous.

The Hawaiʻi Police Department is asking for the public's help locating Joshua Amaral, 46, a South Kona man wanted in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation and considered armed and dangerous. Amaral was last seen at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, in the area of Paradise Drive and ʻŌhiʻa Drive in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates (HOVE) subdivision, where he was observed fleeing on foot from a residence.
Due to the nature of the warrant and the current ongoing criminal investigation, Amaral should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.
Police said Amaral is known to frequent the Kailua-Kona, South Kona, and HOVE subdivision areas — a corridor that stretches from the commercial center of Kailua-Kona down the coast through rural South Kona into the remote lava fields of Ocean View, one of the island's more isolated residential communities.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported that Amaral was sentenced in March 2025 to a year in jail for second-degree assault, a Class C felony.
Members of the public are strongly advised not to approach Amaral. Anyone who sees him or has information regarding his whereabouts should call 911 immediately or the Hawaiʻi Police Department's non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311.
The Hawaiʻi Police Department reminds the public that harboring or concealing a wanted individual is a criminal offense and may result in charges. Those with information on unsolved cases can also contact the Unsolved Homicides Division at (808) 961-2380 or Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300, where tips can be submitted anonymously.
