Waiākea, Hilo sweep BIIF games; Kamehameha, HPA post shutouts
Meghan Spencer struck out six and allowed one hit as Waiākea blanked Kealakehe 7-0; Hilo’s softball and baseball both delivered lopsided wins while Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi baseball shut out Konawaena 9-0.

Meghan Spencer’s complete-game outing keyed Waiākea’s 7-0 softball shutout of Kealakehe, a victory that pushed the Waveriders to a 3-0 start. Spencer struck out six batters and allowed one hit while also contributing offensively; Waiākea totaled eight hits with Kaelyn Sewake adding two and Keani Kaneshiro, Hope Gaspar, Kamberlyn Kelekoma and Ritanii Henry each recording one.
Hilo High’s softball offense overwhelmed Kea‘au in a 20-5 home win as catcher Taleila Isabel finished with three hits and four RBI and first baseman Mackenzie Valentin added two hits and four RBI. Vaiqueen Porter, Malia Simram, Raelee Salas-Carriaga and Chassee Kaheiki each had one hit in the Vikings’ outburst. Salas-Carriaga and Jacobi Alba-Kuwahara shared time on the mound and combined to allow five hits as Hilo’s softball squad moved to 1-1-1 in the early season and prepares to play Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi on the road Friday.
Hilo’s baseball program delivered a pitching-dominant 14-0 rout of Kea‘au, improving the Vikings to 2-0. The abbreviated box score supplied in the BIIF roundup lists the final but not individual batting or pitching lines for Hilo’s baseball victory.
Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi continued its strong start on Tuesday, blanking visiting Konawaena 9-0 behind a 16-hit attack. Kaikoa Nobriga led KSH with four base hits while Iokepa Martinez, Brock Ayudan and Eriz Passi combined for seven hits. Dayton Hanson, Hunter Yamamoto, Eli Mercado, Reagan Kuamoo and Pono Kanoa each logged hits. Yamamoto earned the win, allowing three hits and no runs, and Passi closed with two strikeouts. Konawaena’s Kawika Fukunaga led his club at the plate with two hits and logged 102 pitches on the mound, with Tylan Corbin also seeing time pitching for the Wildcats. KSH is 2-0 on the season and, according to the weekly recap, carries a 20-0 run differential.

The Waveriders are scheduled to host Kea‘au at home on March 14, giving Waiākea a bit more time between games. Hilo’s softball and baseball teams both face immediate tests: softball travels to face KS-Hawaii Friday and baseball will keep its unbeaten march under close watch in upcoming BIIF play.
Hawaiʻi Preparatory Academy is listed among BIIF programs in the weekly roundup and is referenced in league coverage of shutouts; however, the recap did not include HPA’s opponent, score, or box-score details for this week. Athletic directors and coaches on the island have more midseason matchups on the horizon as teams sort out early-season records and aim to stake positioning inside the BIIF.
