Alta-Aurelia scores season-high 109 points, takes third at MMCRU Relays
Alta-Aurelia piled up points from every corner of the meet, finishing with a season-high 109 and third place at Marcus behind MMCRU and South O’Brien.

Alta-Aurelia’s boys kept scoring in waves at Marcus, using points from sprints, distance races, jumps and relays to post a season-high 109 and finish third at the MMCRU Relays. MMCRU won the meet with 165 points and South O’Brien was second with 147, but Alta-Aurelia’s total showed a team that was no longer dependent on one or two standout results.
Jacob Launderville and Ledger DeMuth led the way with individual wins. Launderville captured the 1,600 meters in 4:58.09, while DeMuth won the 3,200 meters in 10:50.68. DeMuth added another big finish by placing second in the 1,600 in 5:04.21, giving Alta-Aurelia another scorer in a race that helped push the team total higher.

The scoring spread continued across the rest of the lineup. Korbin Glienke took second in the long jump at 17 feet, 5 inches, and Dane Gunkelman was third at 17-3. Camden Reinert finished second in the 100 meters in 11.97 seconds. Eric Kueny placed third in the 400 meters in 58.73 seconds, while Andrew Kueny was fourth in 59.64. Caden Kolar added points with sixth in the 800 in 2:22.89, and Alex Daughenbaugh and Andrew Kueny also contributed in the hurdles.

The relays gave Alta-Aurelia even more traction. The 4x100 relay placed third in 49.02, the 4x200 was fourth in 1:44.17, the 4x400 finished second in 3:53.61, the 4x800 was second in 9:08.85, the sprint medley took fifth in 1:46.37 and the distance medley relay finished second in 3:58.94. That kind of balance turned good individual efforts into a team score that stood well above the rest of the field behind the top two teams.

The 109-point outing also fit the recent trend for Alta-Aurelia. One week earlier at the Newell-Fonda Relays, the team placed third with 91 points, and coach Wendell Larson said then, “We had 10 individual season bests.” At that meet, Launderville won the 800 meters in 2:10.76 and DeMuth was second in the 1,600 in 4:53.04, while the 4x400, 4x800 and distance medley relays all scored. Back-to-back third-place finishes, with the total rising from 91 to 109, suggested Alta-Aurelia was building the kind of depth that can matter most when the season reaches its biggest meets.
