Sophomore Cooper Sobeck delivered a two-out walk-off single into right field on a 1-1 pitch to cap an 11-1 victory over the University of Dubuque at Hertel Field in Storm Lake on Saturday evening, giving Buena Vista University its first American Rivers Conference win of the season after dropping the first two games of the weekend series.

The game was called after seven innings with BVU pounding out 12 hits against the Spartans. Sobeck finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, sophomore Teagen Kasel went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored three times, and both junior Jake Eddie and freshman Benjamin Byington collected two hits apiece.

The Beavers trailed before Kasel tied the game in the third inning by stealing third and scoring when the throw from the catcher sailed over the third baseman's head and down the left field line. BVU took its first lead of the series an inning later when Sobeck lined a two-run single to put the Beavers ahead for good.

The decisive blow came in the sixth, when BVU pushed across seven runs to surge ahead 10-1. Eddie and Byington each delivered two-run singles to highlight the outburst, turning a tight contest into a rout.

Kasel opened the seventh with a single, moved into scoring position when Struck walked, and advanced to third on a double play ground out. Sobeck then ended the game with his walk-off single to right, completing his afternoon and sealing the series finale.

Dubuque, which entered the game 5-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play, spread its modest offensive output across five different players, each recording a single.

Buena Vista improved to 4-11 overall and 1-2 in the American Rivers Conference. The Beavers continue their homestand Tuesday, March 24, hosting Augsburg University in a non-conference doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at Hertel Field.
