Brostads Named 2026 Co-Commodores for Storm Lake Star Spangled Spectacular
The Star Spangled Spectacular committee announced Matt and Katie Brostad have accepted roles as co‑commodores for the 2026 celebration in Storm Lake.

“The Star Spangled Spectacular committee announced that Matt and Katie Brostad have accepted roles as co‑commodores for the 2026 celebration in Storm Lake.” The paper published the selection and a short biography on Feb. 25, 2026, and the Storm Lake Times issue page lists the item in its Feb. 27, 2026 edition.
“The Spectacular committee says the Brostads were chosen for their long‑standing commitment to service and community involvement,” the announcement states, citing the couple’s record of local engagement as the reason for the selection. Event excerpts include an endorsement from Tyler and Deidre Aube, with the Aubes saying “the couple consistently steps up, whether it’s coaching youth sports, volunteering, or supporting local organizations, and that their leadership style reflects the spirit of the event.”

Matt Brostad grew up in Storm Lake and Katie Brostad is originally from Fonda. The Brostads are raising three daughters, Nora, Clare, and Emma, who attend Storm Lake Public Schools and “stay active in a variety of activities,” according to the announcement. The announcement adds that “both parents are deeply woven into the community.”
“For Matt and Katie, the role is an opportunity to help shape a celebration that draws thousands of visitors to Storm Lake every July 3 and 4,” organizers reported. The Brostads “highlighted many of the traditional events they’re excited to help host, from the Big Parade and fireworks to concerts, arts and crafts vendors, the Ride/Run, and the chance to meet new people as they help shuttle guests around the parks.” They also said “the parade has always been a standout for their family.”
One excerpt states, “Event organizers announced yesterday that Matt and Katie Brostad will serve as Co‑Commodores, joining Tyler and Deidre Aube, who were previously named Commodores for this year’s Independence Day festivities.” Portions of the published item are truncated in some feeds; one public notice page carrying the announcement notes, “This item is available in full to subscribers.”
Organizers and the Brostads say they plan to work with a “strong team of community leaders to deliver a memorable holiday weekend,” and local coverage places the announcement in late February as planning begins for the July 3-4 weekend.
