Buena Vista County Fair Board Seeks Sponsors for 140th Anniversary Celebration
Buena Vista County's fair turns 140 this July, and without sponsors, families could pay more at the gate for a lineup that includes bull riding, two concerts and a demo derby.

The five-day schedule for the Buena Vista County Fair's 140th anniversary already features stock car races, tractor pulls, bull riding, two live concerts and a demolition derby. Whether all of it stays affordable for county families depends on how many sponsors commit in the coming months.
The Buena Vista County Fair Board formally launched its sponsorship campaign this week, inviting businesses and individual community members alike to help fund the July 8-12, 2026 celebration at the county fairgrounds. The board is explicit about the stakes: without sufficient sponsorship revenue, organizers may face a choice between scaling back entertainment and raising admission prices.
The 140th anniversary grandstand lineup spans all four nights. Wednesday features stock car racing through Trent Chinn Promotions. Thursday brings tractor pulls from Western Iowa Pullers. Friday combines bull riding from Ride 'em Rank with a concert by Sequoia Newland. Saturday closes the grandstand schedule with a demolition derby run by Domination Motorsports, followed by a concert from Arch Allies. Beyond the grandstand, the fair will again host youth exhibits, food vendors, inflatables, face painting, balloon artists and foam parties that draw families from across Buena Vista County.
Sponsorship revenue also funds the fair's support for 4-H and FFA youth exhibitors, whose premiums and awards draw from the same pool. Keeping participation costs manageable for young exhibitors is among the primary reasons the board is urging early commitments rather than waiting until summer approaches.
The pressure is not unique to Buena Vista County. County fairs across the Midwest have faced rising production costs in recent years, driven by increases in insurance, performer fees and infrastructure expenses, pushing more events to lean on private sponsors and volunteers to bridge budget gaps.
The Fair Board frames the ask broadly: any contribution, from a small community donation to a full business package, is presented as an investment in a 140-year tradition anchored in Storm Lake and the surrounding county. Opening the campaign more than three months before the gates open gives organizers the runway needed to finalize contracts with performers, promoters and vendors before the July 8 opening day.
