The Merlyn Bonde Family's 264.18-acre Buena Vista County farmland portfolio goes to public auction next Wednesday, March 25, at 10:00 a.m. at the Allee American Legion Building at 108 S. Fulton Street in Newell, with farming rights for the 2026 growing season available to the buyer.
Peoples Company is handling the sale under the Buyers Choice auction method, offering the land as three separate tracts northeast of Newell in Sections 3 and 4 of Newell Township. The largest, Tract 2, covers 117.20 acres with 115.16 FSA NHEL cropland acres and a CSR2 productivity rating of 84.8. Tract 1 runs 72.80 acres with 70.24 FSA NHEL cropland acres and a CSR2 of 83.8, while Tract 3 adds 74.18 acres with 71 FSA NHEL cropland acres and a CSR2 of 83. County drainage tile is present on all three tracts.
The CSR2 figures place all three tracts above the county's average CSR2 price-per-point benchmark of $163.37, according to 2025 market data, against an average Buena Vista County farmland value of $13,696 per acre.
