Buena Vista County Primary Ballot Fully Uncontested After Filing Period Closes

Every county-level race on Buena Vista County's June 2 primary ballot is uncontested, with six Republican officeholders filing to keep their seats and no challengers emerging from any party before the filing window closed.

On the Board of Supervisors, Kathy Croker of Alta was the only candidate to file for the District 1 seat, Kelly Snyder of Sioux Rapids filed to retain District 2, and Paul Merten of Storm Lake is unopposed in his bid to continue representing District 3. County Attorney Paul Allen, Recorder Curt Reis, and Treasurer Danelle Haberman, all Republicans from Storm Lake, filed for re-election and face no challengers across those three offices either.

No Democrats filed for any Buena Vista County office this cycle. The result is a clean sweep of uncontested races at the county level, meaning all six incumbents will advance to the November general election ballot unless write-in campaigns emerge in the meantime.

The filing results carry real weight for county governance. Buena Vista County is currently navigating a contested budget environment, with a heated tax hearing over levy rates drawing public attention alongside a proposed 8% levy increase from Storm Lake Schools. The officeholders heading to November without primary opposition will be the same officials steering those fiscal decisions.

Write-in candidacies remain the only remaining mechanism for any electoral challenge at the county level before November. No write-in filings or organized efforts have been reported at this time, and the county auditor's office would have the official certification of all candidate filings and applicable deadlines.
