King’s Pointe and Sunrise Park Anchor Storm Lake Tourism, Boost Local Economy
King’s Pointe and Sunrise Park anchor Storm Lake tourism, driving overnight stays, summer waterpark attendance and seasonal jobs that support local businesses.

King’s Pointe Resort and the adjacent Sunrise Park form the core of Storm Lake’s lakeside tourism cluster, supplying lodging, recreation and event space that underpin Buena Vista County’s summer economy. The City of Storm Lake operates Sunrise Campground at 1001 Sunrise Park Road, offering 103 sites, including 36 full sewer/water/electric 50-amp hookup sites, tenting areas, onsite restrooms and laundry, a boat ramp and a fish-cleaning station. The campground also provides ADA-accessible sites, Wi-Fi coverage, picnic areas and nearby playground and beach access.
The campground sits within easy walking distance of King’s Pointe’s indoor and outdoor waterparks, the Regatta Grille, Pirates’ Pointe mini golf and the nine-hole Sunrise Pointe Golf Course, plus Mandeville Disc Golf Course. Those clustered amenities convert day visitors into overnight stays and lengthen visits, which in turn boosts hotel-room nights, restaurant traffic and retail sales across Storm Lake. City releases in recent seasons have highlighted strong occupancy and increased waterpark usage, and King’s Pointe regularly hosts weddings, conventions and seasonal events that generate local revenue and seasonal employment.
For residents and small businesses, the economic effect is tangible. The campground and lakeside cottages provide affordable lodging options that feed festival attendance and weekend business for restaurants and shops. The combination of an indoor waterpark and outdoor offerings extends Storm Lake’s appeal beyond a single warm-weather month, while the nine-hole golf course and meeting space at King’s Pointe bring shoulder-season and weekday visitation. Those patterns help stabilize sales-tax receipts and support municipal planning for parks, public safety and seasonal staffing needs.
Operationally, the city staffs Sunrise Campground during the main season and handles reservations through campground@stormlake.org and (712) 732-8023. The presence of an accessible boat ramp and a fish-cleaning station also supports anglers who play a role in local tourism spending on bait, fuel and supplies. The clustering of amenities within walking distance creates cross-traffic: a wedding at King’s Pointe can fill nearby campsites and cottages, while a tournament at Sunrise Pointe Golf Course can generate weekday hotel stays and restaurant reservations.
Looking ahead, maintaining and marketing the King’s Pointe–Sunrise Park cluster will remain central to Storm Lake’s tourism strategy. Investments in signage, maintenance, and coordinated event calendars can increase occupancy and visitor spending without large new capital projects. For residents, that means continued seasonal job opportunities, firmer sales-tax revenue for municipal services and a steady stream of visitors who, literally and figuratively, reel in business for the lakeside economy.
