South Bend teacher jailed in Buena Vista County on child enticement charges
A South Bend teacher is being held in Buena Vista County Jail after arrest on child-enticement allegations that now move through Iowa’s court system.

William Cramer, 39, is being held in the Buena Vista County Jail after he was taken into custody Friday afternoon on allegations that he enticed a minor under 16 and engaged in lascivious conduct involving a minor. Cramer was identified as a health teacher at Washington High School in South Bend, Indiana, putting the arrest and detention squarely on the public record in Buena Vista County.
South Bend Community School Corporation said Cramer was placed on administrative leave effective immediately. The district said the alleged conduct has no connection to his role in the school system or to any students in the district. That leaves the criminal case and the school response on separate tracks, with Buena Vista County now holding the detention piece of the case while Indiana school officials handle the employment action.
WSBT also reported that Cramer was listed as a boys’ basketball coach at Penn High School, where he appeared as a head freshman coach, and that he hosts a podcast focused on high school athletics across St. Joseph and Elkhart counties. ABC57 identified him as being from Elkhart, Indiana. Those details explain why the case has drawn attention well beyond South Bend, but the immediate question for Buena Vista County is what comes next in custody and court.
Iowa Courts Online says public case information is available statewide, and public case documents can be viewed at a public access terminal in the courthouse in the county where the case was filed. For residents following the case locally, that means the formal charges, bond decision, and first court dates will determine whether Cramer remains in the Buena Vista County Jail or moves into the next phase of the court process under Iowa law.
