Storm Lake Native Mackenzie Harder Earns All-American Honor at NAIA Indoor Meet
Mackenzie Harder's 5.74-meter long jump at the NAIA indoor meet secured a finals berth and top-eight finish, earning the Storm Lake native All-American honors.

Mackenzie Harder, who ran track as a Tornado at Storm Lake High School, is now an All-American.
Harder earned the distinction at the NAIA national indoor track and field meet, where her long jump of 5.74 meters secured a spot in the finals and a top-eight finish. The performance cemented her All-American status at the collegiate level, adding a new chapter to an athletic career that began on the northwest Iowa prairie.
The Storm Lake Times Pilot reported Harder's accomplishment this week. She is described in coverage as a "former Storm Lake prep" and "Former Tornado," the nickname carried by Storm Lake High School athletic programs.
The 5.74-meter mark places Harder among the top long jumpers competing in NAIA indoor competition, where a top-eight finish at the national meet carries the All-American designation. No other Storm Lake-area athlete was identified in the NAIA indoor results from the same meet.

Harder's achievement arrives during a stretch of notable athletic news out of Buena Vista County. Storm Lake's boys basketball program recently ended a 46-year drought without a state tournament win, needing overtime to advance as a third seed. Four area girls basketball players were also named to the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association all-state team, including Ellie Sievers and Quinn Sievers from Class 1A competition.
For Harder, the All-American honor represents the highest individual distinction in NAIA competition, awarded to athletes who reach the national meet finals and finish among the top eight in their event.
