Storm Lake Students Donate More Than $1,200 to Hospital
Storm Lake High School students are donating more than $1,200 to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center’s AWARE program after an October Pink Out shirt sale featuring student designed apparel. The contribution both supports a local health program and highlights the economic value of school based entrepreneurship that is training young people in real world business skills.

Storm Lake High School’s student run store, The Campus Corner, donates more than $1,200 to the AWARE program at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center following October’s Pink Out shirt sale. The shirts were designed by students and sold through the class operation, and proceeds are being directed to a local health initiative that serves area residents.
The Campus Corner is overseen by instructors Bailey Hauswirth and Nichole Krager and operates as a practical classroom for marketing, finance, retail management, product design, and production. Student participants handled design, promotion and sales through the October campaign and are now preparing to open a physical Campus Corner location. The enterprise also maintains a Shopify site for ongoing updates and sales.
For Buena Vista County residents the donation represents a direct link between school curriculum and community needs. The contribution helps fund a local medical program while providing students with hands on business experience that is increasingly valuable in regional labor markets. Practical classroom enterprises like The Campus Corner offer measurable training in skills employers seek, from pricing and inventory management to brand development and customer service.
The local economic implications extend beyond the dollar amount raised. A student run storefront that becomes a permanent physical presence can generate ongoing sales, create part time job opportunities for young people, and increase foot traffic for nearby businesses. The project illustrates how modest revenue raised through community oriented campaigns can reinforce local institutions and cultivate future entrepreneurs.
Policy considerations for local leaders include expanding partnerships between schools and health providers, supporting school based business incubators with seed funding or shared retail space, and recognizing such programs within workforce development planning. For residents who want to follow the store’s progress, The Campus Corner posts updates on its Shopify site. The initiative underscores a broader trend of integrating experiential entrepreneurship into public education while delivering tangible benefits to community institutions.
