Two Storm Lake residents charged after fight, one accused of serious injury

A child’s 911 call sent Storm Lake police to the 300 block of West 9th Street around 8:40 p.m. Sunday, where officers found two Storm Lake men tied to a fight that ended in criminal charges.

Police said officers arrived at the residential block and saw Jairo Gutierrez-Cortes, 37, of Storm Lake, in a front lawn. Diego Rodriguez, 27, of Storm Lake, was also identified in connection with the confrontation. Gutierrez-Cortes faces an assault causing serious injury charge, a count that signals investigators believed the incident went beyond a simple argument.
