Deon Lee Muckelvene, 41, was sentenced to prison for a 2025 downtown Asheville stabbing that left a man with a knife embedded in his head, Buncombe County Superior Court Judge Louis Trosch entered judgment on March 4.

Trosch sentenced Muckelvene to 30 to 48 months for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, a Class E felony. Muckelvene received a second sentence of 19 to 32 months for assault inflicting serious bodily injury, a Class F felony. The Buncombe County District Attorney's Office confirmed both sentences are to run concurrently. Muckelvene will be transferred to the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction to serve his term.

The charges stem from a March 12, 2025 attack near the intersection of Patton and North French Broad avenues in downtown Asheville. Officers on patrol discovered the victim in the 100 block of Patton Avenue lying in the street with a knife protruding from his head. Police identified two suspects in the attack: Muckelvene and Sheri Lynn Sutton. Muckelvene was apprehended two days later on the 160 block of South French Broad Avenue, while Sutton remained at large before being arrested in June 2025.

The status of Sutton's prosecution following her June 2025 arrest has not been publicly reported. The victim's identity and current medical condition were not released by the district attorney's office or law enforcement.
