Asheville to Host G20 Finance Track Meetings Aug. 29-Sept. 1, 2026
The U.S. Treasury announced Asheville will host G20 Finance Track meetings Aug. 29–Sept. 1, 2026, a move Secretary Scott Bessent tied to western North Carolina’s recovery from Hurricane Helene.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that Asheville will host key meetings of the 2026 G20 Finance Track, scheduling finance and central bank deputies for Aug. 29–30 and finance ministers and central bank governors for Aug. 31–Sept. 1, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement. “I am proud to spotlight that the United States will host the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in Asheville, North Carolina,” Bessent said, adding that the selection “reflects the Trump Administration’s commitment to the revitalization and resilience of western North Carolina, which continues to rebuild after the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene.”
The Treasury notice places the Asheville sessions within a broader 2026 calendar that includes a finance ministers and central bank governors meeting April 16 in Washington, D.C., and a follow-up meeting Oct. 15 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the U.S. host year set to conclude at the G20 Leaders’ Summit Dec. 14–15 at Trump National Doral in Miami, Florida, President Donald J. Trump will host the leaders’ summit, the statement said.
In a separate passage from the Treasury statement reproduced in coverage, Bessent tied the U.S. host year to economic messaging: “Thanks to President (Donald) Trump’s pro-growth economic policies, the United States’ economy is reaching historic heights, and as the G20’s Finance Track lead Treasury will leverage America’s demonstrable economic success and bring the G20 back to its core mission by undertaking a streamlined, results-oriented approach for the group,” the statement said. The announcement also included language that the U.S. will host the world’s 20 largest economies for the first time since 2009 and that the host year coincides with America’s 250th anniversary.
Local leaders and district voices welcomed the selection. A social-media-style post included in local coverage said, “Global finance leaders will gather in Asheville for 2026 G-20 Finance Track meetings, a major opportunity to showcase the strength, beauty, and economic momentum of NC-11. We look forward to welcoming them to our district. 🌄” Brad Briner, identified in local reporting as state treasurer and former co-chief investment officer for Willett Advisors, said having Asheville and the state selected “is truly a distinct honor.”

Economic-impact projections in the compiled coverage were limited to a LinkedIn excerpt that stated, “The conference will generate millions of dollars for area businesses and shine an international light on Western North Carolina.” The Treasury statement and the reproduced materials did not identify specific conference venues in Asheville, list attending ministers or central bank governors by name, or provide a detailed economic-impact estimate or security and logistics plans for Aug. 29–Sept. 1.
Asheville and Buncombe County leaders, hotel operators and the local hospitality industry will face a compressed timeline: the Treasury dates put high-level deputies in the city Aug. 29–30 followed immediately by ministers and governors Aug. 31–Sept. 1. The announcement was published Feb. 19, 2026; officials have not yet provided venue names or a public agenda in the material released with the Treasury statement. Reporters note the schedule also includes the April 16 Washington meeting and the Oct. 15 Bangkok meeting as part of the Finance Track lead-up to the Dec. 14–15 leaders’ summit at Trump National Doral in Miami.
