Vinyl-Focused Joyful Noise Opens at Wedge Studios, Summit Coffee Returns
Joyful Noise, a vinyl-focused listening lounge with Summit Coffee by day, was announced for Wedge Studios, bringing music-driven nightlife and daytime coffee back to the RAD.

Partners from Hi-Wire Brewing, Vivian, and Summit Coffee announced Jan. 20, 2026, that Joyful Noise Listening Lounge and Kitchen will open in spring 2026 at Wedge Studios in Asheville’s River Arts District (RAD). The hybrid venue will operate as Summit Coffee during the day and convert to a vinyl-focused listening lounge in the evenings, a model designed to drive both daytime foot traffic and evening cultural activity in a neighborhood still reactivating after Helene.
Joyful Noise will emphasize a listening-room format, with curated music played one side of a record at a time. Chef Josiah McGaughey, a previous James Beard semifinalist, will run the kitchen and offer small plates inspired by European and Asian flavors. The combination of Summit Coffee’s daytime draw and a chef-driven evening menu aims to create all-day economic activity for Wedge Studios and adjacent RAD businesses.
The announcement signals a notable return for Summit Coffee to the River Arts District, restoring a locally familiar anchor that often helps steady daytime pedestrian flows. For RAD artists, gallery owners, and studio renters, the presence of a daytime coffee operation followed by an intimate listening venue may increase incidental spending on lunch, late-afternoon breaks, and pre-show dining. The model also fits broader trends in experiential retail and hospitality that blend daytime services with nightlife to extend hours of operation and revenue per square foot.
Local economic implications include potential boosts to nearby studios and shops through increased foot traffic and the attraction of evening audiences who might otherwise leave the district after daytime hours. Joyful Noise’s vinyl-only listening approach creates a differentiated cultural product for Asheville’s live-music and record-collecting communities, potentially drawing patrons from elsewhere in Buncombe County and beyond. That pull could translate into ancillary spending on parking, lodging, and other RAD businesses during peak nights.

City leaders and neighborhood stakeholders have emphasized reactivation since Helene. The arrival of a mixed-use venue led by recognizable local partners - Hi-Wire Brewing, Vivian, and Summit Coffee - provides a private-sector signal of confidence in continued recovery and investment in the RAD’s cultural economy. Chef Josiah McGaughey’s culinary reputation may also attract diners who follow regional food scenes, adding another layer of economic promise.
For residents, Joyful Noise offers a new daytime coffee option and an evening destination that prioritizes listening over background noise. Expect Summit Coffee service during daylight hours and a transformed, vinyl-first atmosphere after dark when Joyful Noise begins operation in spring 2026. The opening will be a tangible step in the RAD’s ongoing revival and a fresh spot for Buncombe County’s music and food scenes to converge.
