Weaverville Man Charged After Shots Fired Into Vehicle on Fairview Road

Michael Adarius Cornett, 37, was arrested after firing multiple rounds into an occupied vehicle traveling near the 700 block of Fairview Road in Asheville just after dawn on Saturday, March 14. No one was injured, but the victim's car sustained damage in the shooting, which occurred around 6:21 a.m.

When Asheville Police Department officers arrived at the scene, the victim told them that a man driving in an adjacent lane had fired multiple rounds into his car before fleeing the area. Investigators later noted that Cornett and the victim knew each other prior to the shooting, though no further detail about the nature of their relationship has been released.

APD detectives identified Cornett as the suspect through subsequent investigation. Buncombe County Sheriff's Office deputies then took him into custody at his residence in Weaverville. A search of that home yielded six firearms.

Cornett was charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied property, assault with a deadly weapon, and injury to personal property. He was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility without bond, making him ineligible for release.
