Carrollton opens registration for Tails & Trails 5K on June 6
Carrollton’s third Tails & Trails 5K returns June 6 with dogs welcome, Green Trail racing and net proceeds going to the city animal shelter.

Carrollton families, walkers and dog owners have a new reason to circle June 6: the third annual Tails & Trails 5K is back at Josey Ranch Sports Complex, turning a neighborhood race into a fundraiser for the city’s animal shelter.
Registration opened May 15 for the 8 a.m. event at 1440 Keller Springs Road in Carrollton, and the city says sign-ups remain open until race day. Anyone who registers by June 1 is guaranteed a race packet and T-shirt, while changes made after that date will cost a $5 fee. The city also says group entries are capped at six people.
The course pairs a timed 5K with an untimed Fun Run/Walk, giving the event a wider reach than a typical runners-only race. Participants will run on the Green Trail, and dogs are welcome without needing to be registered themselves, a detail that makes the event especially accessible for families and pet owners looking for a low-pressure Saturday morning activity.
Race-day check-in and warm-up run from 7 to 7:45 a.m., the timed 5K starts at 8 a.m., and the Fun Run/Walk begins at 8:30 a.m. The awards ceremony for the 5K is set for 9 a.m. Overall male and female winners will be recognized, and medals will go to the top three finishers in each age group: 10 & under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 & over.

Beyond the race itself, the event is built around a direct city service. All net proceeds benefit the Carrollton Animal Services & Adoption Center, the city’s open-intake municipal shelter for residents. Carrollton says the shelter works to find the best possible outcome for animals in its care, and adopted pets must receive rabies vaccinations and be spayed or neutered.
The race also reflects how Carrollton has turned pet-friendly programming into a recurring part of its civic calendar. Tails & Trails is the new name for the earlier Carrollton Trails 5K, and its move to a new location inside Josey Ranch Sports Complex helps give the returning event a fresh feel while keeping the same community focus.
