Collin County Deputy Rescues Injured Bunny During Emergency Call
A Collin County Sheriff's deputy stopped to rescue an injured bunny during an emergency call on Wednesday, a moment of unexpected compassion from Sgt. Holcomb.

Sgt. Holcomb of the Collin County Sheriff's Office took an unexpected detour from routine duty Wednesday when he came across an injured rabbit during an emergency call, stopping to render aid to the small animal before continuing his work.
The incident, which unfolded April 9, highlighted a side of law enforcement that residents rarely see. Holcomb, a Texas Master Peace Officer with the McKinney-based department, spotted the injured bunny and chose to intervene rather than pass it by, a decision that reflected the department's broader commitment to the community it serves.
The Collin County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Jim Skinner, operates out of its headquarters at 4300 Community Ave. in McKinney and is responsible for law enforcement across the county's unincorporated areas. The department has long emphasized community-centered policing, and Wednesday's impromptu rescue fit squarely within that mission.
Wildlife encounters are not uncommon across Collin County's rapidly expanding suburban landscape, where development has pushed residential neighborhoods into close contact with native animal habitats. Rabbits, in particular, are frequently found injured near roadways and construction zones throughout the county's unincorporated areas.
Collin County Animal Services, which handles animal control for unincorporated portions of the county, works alongside wildlife rehabilitators to address injured animals. Residents who encounter hurt wildlife can also contact the DFW Wildlife Hotline for guidance on next steps.
For Holcomb, the call was simply part of the job, one that on this occasion required looking out for a resident of the four-legged variety.
