Credit Union of Texas opens new Richardson branch on May 16
Credit Union of Texas turned a former Comet Cleaners on Campbell Road into its second Richardson branch, adding another in-person banking option in a busy retail corridor.

A former Comet Cleaners on Campbell Road got a new tenant Saturday as Credit Union of Texas opened its second Richardson branch, adding another in-person banking option in a corridor already shaped by retail turnover and neighborhood services.
The branch is at 281 W. Campbell Road in Richardson, and CUTX said it will offer full-service consumer and business banking. That matters for households and small businesses looking for face-to-face help with more than deposits and withdrawals, especially in a city where another local financial storefront can reduce the need to cross town for routine banking.
The opening also shows how financial institutions are reusing older commercial space rather than building from scratch. Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings list the project as a $500,000 renovation of a 1,725-square-foot tenant space. The record identifies the site as CUTX - West Richardson and places it in the former dry-cleaning location that closed in 2025.

CUTX’s Richardson expansion comes with a built-in community angle. The grand opening, held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., included complimentary food and drinks, a live DJ and children’s games and activities. That kind of event turns a branch launch into a neighborhood gathering, but the larger story is the bank’s bet that this corner of Richardson can support another permanent service destination.
The new location is CUTX’s second branch in Richardson, following its SMART branch inside Berkner High School. Richardson ISD said that branch was created to give students real-world experience and hands-on training for life after graduation. CUTX said its SMART branch model began in 2020, is fully operated by students and now includes two SMART branches.

That student-run model gives the Berkner site a different purpose from the new Campbell Road branch, which is aimed at everyday consumer and business banking. Together, the two locations show a credit union using Richardson for both education and expansion, while also signaling continued demand for brick-and-mortar financial services in North Texas.
Credit Union of Texas said it now has 19 branches across North Texas. In Richardson, the new storefront adds to the city’s mix of banks, schools and commercial properties, and it turns an empty former cleaners space into another active stop for local banking on a well-traveled road.
