Fifth Annual Art Meets Poetry Brings 44 Texas Pairings to McKinney
Art Meets Poetry returns to McKinney with 44 artist-poet pairings at the Collin County History Museum Feb. 6-7, offering readings, an opening reception, and community fundraising.

The fifth annual Art Meets Poetry will bring 44 original pairings of visual art and spoken-word poetry to the Collin County History Museum, turning the gallery into a community showcase that organizers say draws talent from across Texas. The two-day event, produced by the Art Club of McKinney and the Mockingbird Poetry Society, opens with a reception Friday, Feb. 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with public poetry readings and the full exhibit running Saturday, Feb. 7, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The Mockingbird Poetry Society describes the project as a three-phase collaboration that asks artists and poets to submit original work, reserve a peer’s piece to interpret, and deliver a finished interpretation for exhibition. Phase 1 submission deadline was Nov. 15 at 11:59 p.m.; Phase 2 reservation window ran Nov. 17 through Dec. 13 at 11:59 p.m.; and Phase 3 final submission and payment were due Jan. 24 at 11:59 p.m. Participants who need to reserve a Phase 1 entry should email Barry Rynk at ArtMeetsPoetryProgram@gmail.com. Physical dropoff and pickup of artworks is at Collin County History Museum, 300 E. Virginia St., McKinney, TX 75069. Mailed payments are handled by Art Club of McKinney, P.O. Box 243, McKinney, TX 75070; checks should be made payable to Art Club of McKinney and noted "2026 Art Meets Poetry." The event listing recommends ages 16 and older. The event page notes that participants must pay a fee but does not list the exact amount.
Organizers frame the exhibit as a chance to deepen local creative ties. Kathryn Ikle, president of the Art Club of McKinney, "expressed how important it is to celebrate storytelling and expression through this creative partnership." The Mockingbird Poetry Society uses Leonardo da Vinci’s line as a theme: "Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen."
The 44 pairings mark a modest expansion from last year’s 40 pairings, a 10 percent increase, and follow a 2025 event that drew more than 280 attendees. The Art Club of McKinney reports last year’s raffle raised $680 for local charities and named Catherine L’Herrison as the winner of Myryn Elizabeth Clark’s pastel piece Going Home. Past People’s Choice winners cited on the Art Club site include Pairing #2, Neeta Nayak (poet) and Anjali Pai (artist), and Pairing #39, Anjali Golwala (artist) and Kavya Baburaj (poet). Photographs from 2025 showed artist Karren Case presenting alongside poet Beth Ayers.

For downtown McKinney, the exhibit offers modest but visible economic and civic benefits: increased foot traffic through the historic museum, opportunities for local galleries and cafés to host visitors, and a fundraising channel for local nonprofits. Residents interested in attending the opening reception, hearing live readings, or viewing the exhibit should plan for Friday evening or Saturday midday hours at the Collin County History Museum, and contact Barry Rynk at ArtMeetsPoetryProgram@gmail.com or the Art Club of McKinney P.O. Box for submission or payment questions. The event signals continued growth in Collin County’s cultural calendar and a steady platform for artists and poets to connect with the community.
