Frisco's Dallas Pulse clinch first playoff berth in franchise history
A team that did not exist last fall has already locked up a playoff berth, and Frisco will host volleyball’s 2026 championship at Comerica Center.

A team that unveiled its name and Frisco home court only last October is now bringing playoff volleyball to Comerica Center, giving Collin County a first-season success story with real postseason stakes.
The Dallas Pulse clinched the first playoff berth in franchise history with a 3-0 sweep of the Omaha Supernovas, winning 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 and improving to 17-6. It was Dallas’ seventh sweep of the season, another sign that once the Pulse find their rhythm, they have been able to take control quickly and keep it.

That matters in Frisco because the Pulse are not just another visiting club passing through North Texas. They are part of the city’s growing sports economy, with Comerica Center now serving as home court and, soon, as the stage for the 2026 Major League Volleyball Championship on May 7 and May 9. The top four teams will come to Frisco for that event, and the title winner will earn a $1 million bonus.
The playoff-clinching win also gives the young franchise another fast-turnaround milestone. The Pulse debuted at Comerica Center on Jan. 10, 2026, after announcing their branding and home venue in October 2025. In less than a year, the club has moved from launch mode to postseason mode, an unusually quick rise for an expansion team trying to build a fan base and an identity.
On the court, Dallas paired a .320 team hitting percentage with balanced blocking and timely scoring runs, especially in the middle and at the service line. Omaha had brief momentum swings and played in front of an 11,212-crowd, but Dallas answered repeatedly and closed the match without letting it drift.
The roster behind that result has been built aggressively. Dallas selected outside hitter Mimi Colyer with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 MLV draft on Nov. 24, 2025, and four Pulse players, Colyer, Sofia Maldonado Diaz, Natalia Valentin-Anderson and Layne Van Buskirk, were named 2026 MLV All-Stars. Shannon Winzer, hired in September 2025 as the inaugural head coach, has guided the group through the league’s first months, while the franchise’s February investment announcement included Dallas Mavericks head coach and NBA Hall of Famer Jason Kidd.
For Frisco, the Pulse now fit a familiar pattern. The city has spent years stacking professional and high-profile sports assets, and the Pulse have become the latest proof that women’s sports can fill seats, create momentum and anchor major events quickly. With the playoffs secured and the championship headed to Comerica Center, Frisco is set to be in the center of the league’s first major crown race.
