Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Vehicle Near FM 544 in Wylie Wednesday

A man was struck and killed by a vehicle near the intersection of Westgate Way and FM 544 in Wylie on Wednesday, March 18, after officers and fire crews responded to find him unresponsive on the ground and could not revive him.

Officers were dispatched around 10:53 a.m. to the intersection of Westgate Way and W. FM 544 following reports that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian. Upon arrival, they found an adult male lying on the ground. Police say the pedestrian was hit near the Chili's off South Westgate Way, and the driver remained on scene.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified. Fox4 News reported the pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck, though the Wylie Police Department's press release referenced in other coverage used the broader term "vehicle." No name, age, or hometown for the victim has been released.

According to Donald English, a Wylie police spokesman, officers were dispatched shortly before 11 a.m. to the area near the intersection of East FM 544 and Westgate Way, where they found a male lying on the ground. The male, who was not publicly identified, died of his injuries. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators, English said. No arrests had been made as of initial reporting.

Authorities said the incident occurred near Westgate and West FM 544, where the adult male was struck. The Wylie Police Department responded to the scene around 10:53 a.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian. Wylie Fire Rescue also responded, and personnel from both agencies attempted to save the man's life before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Wylie Police Department's accident investigators, along with the Criminal Investigative Division, responded to continue the investigation. No cause contributing to the collision, such as driver impairment or speed, has been reported by police. The investigation remains ongoing.
