At 601 N. Star Road in southeast Plano, tucked between industrial buildings and neighborhood homes, a two-story structure is rising that will eventually house thousands of servers powering artificial intelligence workloads for one of the technology industry's fastest-growing cloud companies.

Aligned Data Centers LLC is developing the 425,000-square-foot facility for Lambda Inc., a cloud-computing company backed by Nvidia, in a project reported to carry a price tag near $700 million. Gregg Poole, vice president of platform execution at Aligned, said the project will eventually reach 72 megawatts of computing power and is expected to be fully completed next year.

Construction began in 2024, and the project has reached a significant structural milestone: crews have completed the building shell, finished a nearby electrical substation, and installed power equipment. Aligned plans to wrap up the initial buildout in the second quarter, with the first 9 megawatts ready for Lambda to begin installing servers in June. Additional capacity will come online in 9-megawatt increments as construction continues through the phased buildout.

The facility's interior is designed for industrial-scale computing density. Lambda's data center will contain 12 data halls, each approximately 20,000 square feet. Each hall will hold 16 to 20 rows of servers, with roughly 40 racks per row, creating a machine environment built specifically to handle AI-era processing demands.

The development team includes Turner Construction Co., Olsson, WSP, and Corgan alongside Aligned.

In a LinkedIn post, Aligned framed the project within a broader economic argument for Collin County, citing a Texas Association of Business study projecting the county will generate 10 percent of Texas' total GDP by 2050. "North Texas is fast becoming a national hub for AI and digital infrastructure," the company wrote, describing the Plano facility as "purpose-built to meet the rising demand for high-performance, AI-ready infrastructure."

At 425,000 square feet and nearly three-quarters of a billion dollars in projected cost, the Star Road facility ranks among the most substantial single infrastructure investments currently underway anywhere in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro.
