Plano man killed in pedestrian crash on Alma Drive in Plano
A 69-year-old Plano man died after a gray Toyota Tundra hit him on Alma Drive near Seabrook Drive, drawing new scrutiny to pedestrian safety in the city.

A 69-year-old Plano man was killed Friday night after a gray Toyota Tundra struck him while he was crossing Alma Drive near Seabrook Drive, putting one of Plano’s major north-south routes back under a harsh safety spotlight.
The crash happened around 8:50 p.m. in the 6700 block of Alma Drive. Plano Fire-Rescue pronounced the victim, Al-Nasir Jinnah of Plano, dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Plano police said speed and intoxication are not believed to have been factors. The Plano Police Traffic Unit is investigating how the collision unfolded and what conditions were present where Jinnah crossed the street.
That stretch of Alma Drive sits within a city that has already made pedestrian safety a public issue. Plano’s pedestrian-safety page says the city is hanging signs at key intersections to warn about roadway danger and prevent deaths. The City of Plano also adopted new Street Design Standards in September 2023, including a neighborhood traffic management program aimed at speeding, elevated traffic volumes, crashes and unsafe roadway conditions.
The deadly crash adds to a wider traffic-safety problem that extends far beyond one block in Collin County. The Texas Department of Transportation says pedestrians accounted for 19% of all roadway fatalities in Texas, and in 2024 the state recorded 6,095 pedestrian crashes and 772 pedestrian deaths. Nationally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 7,080 pedestrian deaths in 2024.
Plano also maintains crash reports and annual police reports for public review, tools that give residents a way to track whether a problem intersection is isolated or part of a recurring pattern. On Alma Drive, the question now is not only what happened to Jinnah, but whether the roadway itself is doing enough to protect people on foot.
