A loose dog led to a fatal collision on one of Plano’s busiest corridors Monday night, when police say 72-year-old Beverly Doak Grimes was struck while chasing the animal across Parkwood Boulevard.

Plano police identified Grimes as the woman killed in the crash in the 3300 block of Parkwood Boulevard, where officers and Plano Fire-Rescue were called around 7 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026. Investigators said Grimes entered the roadway midblock, outside of a crosswalk, while trying to reach her unrestrained dog.

Police said a green Subaru Crosstrek was traveling northbound when it hit Grimes. First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and Plano Animal Services secured the dog after the crash.

Investigators said they do not believe speed or intoxication played a role in the collision. The case remains under review by the Plano Police Traffic Unit, which is continuing to reconstruct what happened in the seconds before the impact.

Northbound Parkwood Boulevard was shut down from West Parker Road to Windhaven Parkway after the crash, underscoring how quickly a split-second decision can shut down traffic and turn a neighborhood concern into a deadly roadway emergency. For Plano drivers and pet owners alike, the facts of the case point to the same hard lesson: on a major street like Parkwood Boulevard, even a brief chase for a loose animal can put a person directly in the path of traffic.

City crash reports are available online, though police note they can take up to 10 business days to be processed and posted. For residents looking to understand how serious crashes unfold on local roads, the Parkwood Boulevard collision is the kind of incident that puts a familiar daily risk into sharp focus.
