Semi-truck crash kills driver, shuts down U.S. 75 in Anna
A semi-truck crash killed the driver and shut down both directions of U.S. 75 in Anna, snapping a major commuter corridor and forcing detours at Rosamond Parkway and Exit 48B.

A semi-truck driver died after a crash shut down both directions of U.S. 75 in Anna near Rosamond Parkway, stopping one of far-north Collin County’s busiest commuter corridors and forcing traffic onto nearby exits and frontage roads.
Anna police said no other vehicles were involved in the May 6 crash, and the driver’s identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The cause was not immediately known and remained under investigation as emergency crews worked the scene and cleared the highway.
Northbound drivers were diverted at the Rosamond Parkway exit, while southbound traffic was rerouted at Exit 48B. For commuters, freight haulers and drivers heading through northern Collin County, the closure underscored how quickly one commercial-vehicle wreck can ripple across a rapidly growing city that depends heavily on U.S. 75 for daily travel.
That disruption comes as Anna continues to expand at a breakneck pace. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the city’s population at 31,986 on July 1, 2024, up 87.3% from the 2020 base. City officials have said roads and traffic have become a major focus because of that growth, and the city’s traffic-studies page specifically lists the U.S. 75 frontage road at Outer Loop and Rosamond Parkway among monitored locations.

The latest crash also landed on a corridor that Anna leaders have already identified as vulnerable. City documents describe Rosamond Parkway as a critical east-west connection between U.S. 75 and SH 5, and widening Rosamond Parkway from U.S. 75 to SH 5 to four lanes has been discussed. In September 2024, WFAA reported that the city and the Texas Department of Transportation were already trying to address crashes and congestion in the U.S. 75 work zone through Anna, with most of the congestion concentrated between FM 455 and Rosamond Parkway.
That report said there had been 89 accidents since late April 2024, with 40 resulting in crash reports or disabled vehicles, and five lives lost since the closures and congestion began. In August 2024, another major wreck on northbound U.S. 75 near Rosamond Parkway killed Collin County court clerk Katrina Shelby and blocked the highway until it reopened about 6 p.m.
Taken together, the crashes have turned this stretch of U.S. 75 into more than a pass-through road. In Anna, it has become a daily pressure point for commuters, a freight bottleneck and a continuing safety concern for a city growing faster than its roadway network can absorb.
