Copperas Cove Bookstore Launches Free App to Connect Readers, Support Local Vendors
Mario Vasquez built First Edition Bookstore to honor his late brother's love of reading. Now a free app brings that mission to every phone in Coryell County.

Mario Vasquez opened First Edition Bookstore in Copperas Cove on June 26, 2024, inspired in part by a brother who shared his passion for books. Less than two years later, he's betting that a free mobile app can do what a storefront alone cannot: remind people that a bookstore is already nearby.
Launched in early March 2026, the app lets shoppers browse First Edition's current inventory, view cover photos, and read descriptions Vasquez wrote himself for each title. It is available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play at no cost to users.
The tool is aimed not only at readers but at local authors and vendors, with Vasquez positioning it as a way to expand digital access for the small-business community around Copperas Cove. The app arrives at a moment when independent bookstores across the country continue to compete against the frictionless convenience of online retail giants.
"Sometimes people order online without realizing a bookstore might be right down the street," Vasquez said. "If we can bring readers back into bookstores, that's a win for everyone."

Looking ahead, Vasquez said he intends to keep growing the store's inventory and eventually add audiobook options directly within the app. His broader aim is to use the technology as a nudge toward a habit that online shopping has quietly displaced.
First Edition Bookstore is a small independent shop, and the app reflects the scale of its ambitions more than its size. Vasquez is building the catalog descriptions by hand, lending the browsing experience a personal quality that a large retailer's database cannot replicate. Whether that proves enough to shift purchasing habits in Coryell County remains to be seen, but the app gives the store a digital presence that extends well beyond its storefront.
