Copperas Cove edge rusher Matt Zeigler sets June 12 North Texas visit
Copperas Cove edge rusher Matt Zeigler will visit North Texas on June 12, a sign his recruiting is moving fast and his hometown program is producing Division I attention.

Copperas Cove edge rusher Matt Zeigler has locked in an official visit to North Texas on June 12, putting one of Coryell County’s most watched young prospects squarely in the middle of a growing recruiting race.
Zeigler is a Class of 2027 prospect from Copperas Cove High School, listed by 247Sports at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds as an edge. The site shows seven scholarship offers and no crystal-ball predictions yet, with Texas State, UTSA, Dartmouth, Army and Idaho already on his offer list. North Texas is also listed as recruiting him, and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has him as an uncommitted defensive end from Copperas Cove.
An official visit is one of the clearest signals that a program is pressing its case. For Zeigler, it puts the Mean Green in position to evaluate him up close, while giving him a direct look at a program that is trying to move ahead in his process. With North Texas now scheduled, the next decision points will come quickly as other schools try to keep pace and Zeigler weighs which staff and defensive fit stand out most.
The attention is a local point of pride for Copperas Cove, where the Bulldogs have a history of turning out hard-nosed football talent and where every major recruiting step is followed closely. Zeigler has also shown up on the field in more than one way. MaxPreps lists him as a junior on Copperas Cove’s varsity football and basketball rosters, and a game recap from the Bulldogs’ 31-30 win over Killeen on Sept. 26, 2025, credited him with a sack in the district opener.
That win came as Copperas Cove improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in district, while continuing to own the long-running series with Killeen, 16-7 at the time. Head coach Rodney Southern said after the one-point victory that the Bulldogs had not yet played their best football, a reminder that Zeigler’s rise is unfolding inside a program still trying to push its ceiling higher.
Prep Redzone also has Zeigler on its radar, listing him as a 6-foot-4 defensive line prospect with a profile created March 2, 2026. For Copperas Cove, the June 12 stop at North Texas is more than one more calendar date. It is another marker that a local player is drawing college attention fast, and that the Bulldogs’ next big recruiting move may not be far behind.
