Copperas Cove Freshmen Earn Three Medals at District Track Meet
Five Copperas Cove freshmen claimed three medals Thursday at the district track meet, led by the 4x100 relay team's runner-up finish.

Five Copperas Cove High School freshmen took three medals Thursday at the Freshman District Track Meet, with Isaiah Tutson, KJ Washington, Luis Nieves and Jaylen Boyd earning two relay podium finishes and JJ Hernández claiming third in the discus throw.
The relay foursome of Tutson, Washington, Nieves and Boyd ran on both sprint teams, finishing second in the 4x100 and third in the 4x200. The runner-up finish in the 4x100 placed Copperas Cove one position off the top of the podium in one of the meet's signature events. Returning to run the longer relay, the same four athletes added another top-three result to the program's tally.
Hernández provided the field event medal, placing third in the discus throw to ensure Copperas Cove's hardware stretched beyond the track. His finish gave the program podium results in two separate disciplines, with five athletes contributing to all three medals on the same afternoon.
The performances came at the UIL-governed freshman district level, which marks the first formal competitive benchmark for high school athletes in the Copperas Cove Independent School District. A recruiting account highlighted all five athletes' results following the meet, a sign that the class is drawing outside attention early in their careers.
All five medal-winners are ninth-graders competing in their first year of UIL district track, making Thursday's three podium finishes a strong early showing for Copperas Cove's freshman class in Coryell County.
