Copperas Cove police are investigating a fraud that left a homeowner on the 1300 block of Bluebird Trail with reported losses between $150,000 and $300,000 after a caller impersonated a Microsoft employee, the Copperas Cove Police Department said. The incident, reported Feb. 20, 2026, was initially classified by officers as a property theft before detectives identified it as a fraud offense.

Lt. Krystal Baker of the Copperas Cove Police Department confirmed investigators are looking into a suspect who posed as a Microsoft representative in an attempt to gain access to the victim’s accounts and devices. Baker said the department is withholding additional details to protect the victim and because the investigation is ongoing, and she declined to identify any suspect or say whether funds or devices were recovered.

Baker offered specific consumer guidance to residents in Coryell County: unsolicited calls from people claiming to represent technology companies and requesting remote access to personal devices or accounts are an immediate red flag. “Legitimate companies will not contact you in this manner to request access to your computer, financial information, or login credentials,” Baker said. Police also urged residents to never give remote access or personal financial information to unsolicited callers.

The department has not reported any arrests, suspect names, or the exact mechanism used to transfer money in the Bluebird Trail case. Investigators did not specify whether the loss was the result of a successful account takeover, wire or bank transfer, or other payment method. Police say they are keeping those details confidential while detectives pursue leads and protect the victim’s privacy.

Copperas Cove officials reiterated that this case is under active investigation and asked anyone with information tied to the incident on the 1300 block of Bluebird Trail to contact the Copperas Cove Police Department. As the probe continues, Lt. Krystal Baker and department detectives emphasized that residents in Copperas Cove and neighboring Coryell County should treat unsolicited tech-support calls demanding remote access as scams and report suspicious contacts to local law enforcement.
