Copperas Cove Independent School District held its State of the District presentation on Feb. 19, 2026, in Lea Ledger Auditorium at Copperas Cove High School, where district leadership highlighted a recently issued bond to build more than 75,000 square feet of Career and Technical Education space and outlined campus projects including a planned summer 2026 ribbon cutting for Williams-Ledger Elementary, Cove Leader‑Press reported.

The venue listed on district promotional materials differed from local coverage. CCISD graphics and a pre-event post announced the program for Jan. 22 at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, with performances beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the main program at 6 p.m., while Cove Leader‑Press described the on-site setup in the CCHS Lea Ledger lobby and auditorium during the presentation on Feb. 19.

At the presentation, district leadership framed the bond-funded CTE expansion as workforce policy and opportunity building. Cove Leader‑Press reported Hawkins said the bond “will help construct more than 75,000 square feet of Career and Technical Education space, so students can graduate high school with a skill or trade that will land them a great job in an industry where there is a need for workers,” linking the construction figure directly to post‑graduation career pathways.

Facilities updates included a near-complete overhaul at Williams-Ledger Elementary. Cove Leader‑Press reported Hawkins described the campus as “essentially a brand-new campus” once repairs and construction finish, with a ribbon cutting planned for summer 2026; the presentation also noted that all elementary campuses are slated to receive new playground equipment.

District academic outcomes were part of the briefing. Cove Leader‑Press reported that 45 members of the Class of 2025 graduated with an associate’s degree, a milestone district leaders used to emphasize career- and college-readiness in Copperas Cove ISD messaging. District graphics accompanying promotional material used the Bulldawg logo and the slogan “One Pack, One Purpose,” and CCISD continues to accept out-of-district transfer requests for 2026-27 on its transfers page.

The event included student performances and campus showcases: Cove Leader‑Press noted the Sunrise Singers from Williams-Ledger Elementary performed, the CCHS culinary students prepared refreshments, and lobby tables spotlighted each campus and campus programs during the presentation. CCISD social media promoted the State of the District in mid‑February and district communications previously invited community questions for Dr. Hawkins via an online form.

Administrative materials visible in CCISD calendar images show the 2025-26 school year spanning July 29, 2025 through June 1, 2026 and note the calendar was approved by the CCISD Board of Trustees on March 4, 2025; the district office is at 408 S. Main St., Copperas Cove, and the main phone line is 254-547-1227. As CCISD moves forward with construction, renovations and workforce-focused CTE growth, district leaders framed the work as part of their mission to expand opportunity: “I’m not saying that we don’t make mistakes, and I’m not saying that we’re perfect, and I’m not saying that we get everything right, but we serve a mission. Our mission, to connect to our vision, is to create an atmosphere and an environment where students have a better chance in life because they were involved and became part of Bulldawg Nation, and that’s what sets us apart,” Hawkins said at the presentation.
