Janell Gray led Copperas Cove to a 17-0 run-rule win over Bryan, pushing the Lady Dawgs to 5-3 in District 12-6A and into second place with four games remaining to lock down a UIL playoff seed.

The result continued a run of dominance in district play. Across wins over Shoemaker, Harker Heights, and now Bryan, Copperas Cove outscored those three opponents a combined 39-1. Bryan finished the full district year at 2-10, one spot above Killeen at 0-12 in the seven-team field.

Waco Midway, coached by Jordan Williams, sat unbeaten atop the standings. The Pantherettes would go on to complete a perfect 12-0 district run before winning the 2025 UIL Class 6A state championship, 9-1 over Clear Springs in Austin, the program's first title since 2010 and third all-time. The No. 2 seed, designated D2-1 under the UIL bracket, was Copperas Cove's target. Holding it would mean home-field advantage in the bi-district round.

Claiming the seed outright required sweeping both remaining two-game series to finish at 9-3. Anything short risked a tiebreaker with Temple, which would close the year at 8-4. The Lady Dawgs ran the table and finished exactly at 9-3, earning the D2-1 slot.

Gray had been the program's most consistent contributor throughout. In two appearances against Shoemaker, she struck out 19 batters in a no-hitter, adding a home run in the same game, then tossed a two-hit shutout in the 11-0 win while going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. She also hit a two-run homer in the 11-1 win over Harker Heights, the game in which Copperas Cove pounded out 15 hits.

The 17-0 win over Bryan set the stakes plainly. Four games remained, second place was within reach, and Copperas Cove had the pitching and run production to hold it.
