Copperas Cove residents who need to clear out household waste or construction debris will get a four-hour Saturday window at the city’s transfer station on April 25. The Copperas Cove Solid Waste Department said the facility will be open from 8 a.m. to noon at 2605 South FM 116, giving people a weekend chance to make a disposal run without taking time away from work.

The city said the extra hours are meant for customers who cannot get to the transfer station during the normal weekday schedule. Under regular operations, the station is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but the scale closes at 3:30 p.m., a cutoff that can make late-afternoon trips difficult for anyone trying to unload after work. The Saturday opening gives residents more flexibility for cleanup projects that build up around the house.

City officials said all standard rates and regulations will remain in effect during the single-day opening. That means the April 25 event is a temporary convenience, not a special-rate promotion or a change in disposal rules. The city did not announce any fee waiver or revised pricing for the Saturday hours.

The transfer station accepts most common household waste and construction debris, but it does not accept hazardous or chemical waste. The city says waste is accepted from both City-owned and private disposal entities, and personnel at the transfer station are also responsible for post-closure maintenance of the old landfill. The station sits within the Copperas Cove Solid Waste Transfer Station Complex, which also includes the Recycling Division’s free self-sort drop-off site for office paper, magazines, phone books, cardboard, aluminum cans, newspaper and plastics labeled Types #1 and #2 only.

This is not the first time Copperas Cove has used a Saturday opening to widen access. The city offered similar Saturday hours on Sept. 27, 2025, and April 26, 2025, both from 8 a.m. to noon. With another spring weekend opening now on the calendar, residents have a limited but practical option for clearing out debris and keeping home projects moving without waiting for the next weekday trip.
