Electrical and plumbing fixes, HVAC replacement and restroom renovations sit at the center of Evant ISD’s $5.98 million bond request, a proposal that could raise the district tax rate by $0.19 if voters approve it on May 2.

The bond would authorize Evant ISD to issue and sell up to $5,980,000 in bonds for the construction, renovation, improvement, acquisition, expansion and equipment of school buildings in the district, including necessary sites. The financing would run for 30 years, and the district estimates that repaying the debt would add about $5.317 million in interest on top of the principal.

Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Ingram has framed the proposal as a facilities measure, not a cosmetic one. The district says the first projects it would pursue if the bond passes are an electrical system update, plumbing system update, restroom renovations, floor and asbestos abatement, HVAC replacement and duct cleaning, and a ceiling tile and grid system update. Those are the kinds of repairs that affect classroom comfort, building safety and day-to-day maintenance for students and staff.

The district’s financial position is part of the debate too. Evant ISD says it has no outstanding debt obligations and recently received an A-grade “Superior Achievement” rating in the Texas FIRST financial accountability system. Ingram, who has served as superintendent since September 2022, previously worked in Evant ISD as PK-12 principal and assistant superintendent and director of finance. Board President Vernon McCann leads the trustees who called the election.

Voters will cast ballots at Evant ISD Central Office, 339 Memory Lane in Evant. Election Day voting will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early voting is scheduled for April 20-28 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the same location, and the voter registration deadline was April 2. The district’s bond page includes English and Spanish notice documents and a sample ballot, and the board also scheduled a public town hall for March 30 at 6 p.m.

If the bond fails, Evant ISD will not have the authority to issue the debt for these projects, leaving the electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other work outlined in the proposal without this funding source. The district’s website shows the 2026 plan is also smaller than a November 2025 notice for $9.5 million, a sign that trustees narrowed the request before bringing it back to voters.
