Evant ISD P-TECH Students Invited to TSTC TechXperience Day in Abilene

Evant ISD is asking its P-TECH high school students to sign up for a Texas State Technical College TechXperience Day and has instructed families to pick a March 5, 10:00 time slot for the Waco campus. The district’s web post makes registration mandatory and flags a scheduling conflict for student‑athletes with a Lometa track meet that same day.

The district post, dated January 30, instructs: “IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO TO TSTC ON MARCH 5TH, FOR A TOUR, THEN PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINK AT THE VERY BOTTOM, AND CHOOSE: MARCH 5 FOR 10:00.” It adds, “IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GO,” and notes, “PLEASE NOTE, IF YOU ARE IN TRACK THERE IS A TRACK MEET IN LOMETA THAT DAY SO YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GO ON THE TOUR.” Evant’s announcement also warns that “Each attendee MUST register individually. Slots are filling quickly, so we encourage you to register your students as soon as possible to secure your spot.”

The invitation arrives amid a broader series of TechXperience Day events hosted by TSTC across multiple campuses. Regional event listings show an Abilene TechXperience Day at the Industrial Technology Center, 2082 Quantum Loop, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., where admissions, financial aid and student support representatives will be on hand and a complimentary lunch will be provided. TSTC promotional materials describe the events as open-campus, self-guided experiences with a brief five-minute welcome followed by program tours departing every 30 minutes from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Event pages recommend one chaperone per 10 students, note shuttle vans and golf carts will be available while encouraging walking between buildings, and state each attendee must RSVP individually. Those materials also list a sign-up deadline of Friday, Feb. 27 for some campus instances.

TSTC’s campus events have drawn significant turnout. At the Harlingen campus on Feb. 29, “More than 600 high school students and visitors toured” facilities during TechXperience Day. Stephanie Garcia, TSTC’s senior admissions advisor in Harlingen, said, “Students from across the Rio Grande Valley engaged in hands-on demonstrations that brought technology to life. We are thrilled that our programs sparked the interest of many juniors and seniors. Hopefully they will consider studying a technical career at TSTC.” Student reactions included praise for hands-on program demonstrations; Rey Corpus, a La Joya High School senior, said, “One of the presentations that I enjoyed was in the Building Construction Technology program. The instructors explained how they help their students understand the education so they can succeed. That’s great to know because it shows they care.”

For Evant families, the sequence of campus dates and registration rules matters. Evant’s post points students to a Waco registration option for March 5 at 10:00 while other campus events are listed on different dates such as Feb. 29. Parents and students must register individually to secure a spot and reconcile any conflicts with athletic commitments. Confirming the specific TSTC campus, tour schedule, registration deadlines and transportation arrangements with Evant ISD or TSTC will determine whether P-TECH students can take advantage of the college visit without missing school or sports commitments.
