Robinson Rockets Sweep Gatesville, Improve District Record to 3-0

Robinson's pitching staff shut out Gatesville 8-0, and the Rockets completed the sweep with a 7-5 JV win on April 1, lifting their UIL District 23-4A record to 3-0 and putting them alone at the top of the standings heading into the back half of district play.

The shutout is the clearest signal of how far this program has come. Gatesville entered the matchup already struggling in district play, having fallen to Glen Rose 10-11 on March 21 and dropped a 2-6 decision to Lorena four days later on March 25. Robinson's pitchers held the Hornets scoreless across all nine innings against that backdrop.

The geography adds weight to every meeting between these two programs. Robinson sits in McLennan County less than 15 miles south of Waco; Gatesville anchors Coryell County as its county seat roughly 40 miles to the southwest. The two schools compete annually in UIL football, softball, and baseball, and the spring district baseball series draws fans from both sides of that county line.

Robinson entered district play with momentum already established. Earlier wins over New Diana, 14-9 on March 14, and Godley, 7-2 on March 22, offered early proof of both offensive production and pitching depth. Now at 3-0, the Rockets are ahead of the pace that produced their 2024 district finish: a 6-4 record, an 18-13-1 overall mark, and a bi-district playoff berth. The program took another step forward after that, qualifying for the UIL Texas Baseball Championships and drawing Salado in a bi-district matchup.

What's next: China Spring, Lorena, and Waco Connally remain on Robinson's district schedule. Win those series, and the Rockets earn the district championship and the top postseason seed they have spent two seasons building toward.
