Bridgeton High School graduate Markquese Bell faces drug charges in Texas arrest
A Bridgeton High School alum and Cowboys safety was jailed in Texas after police said they found marijuana and a THC vape in his vehicle.

Markquese Bell’s arrest in North Texas turned one of Bridgeton’s best-known football success stories into a legal controversy with direct fallout for Cumberland County fans who have followed his rise to the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys defensive back, a graduate of Bridgeton High School, was arrested in Prosper, Texas, booked into the Collin County jail and released the next day after magistration.
Jail records and local reporting list one felony count for possession of a controlled substance and one Class B misdemeanor count for marijuana possession. Police said an officer smelled marijuana during a traffic stop, then searched Bell’s vehicle and found less than 2 ounces of marijuana and a THC electronic cigarette. Local reporting described the controlled-substance count as a state-jail felony.
The Cowboys declined to comment when contacted by reporters. Bell’s agent, Deiric Jackson, said, “Certainly let Markquese have his day like anybody else,” signaling that Bell intends to let the court process unfold.
The arrest carries added weight in Bridgeton, where Bell is still remembered as a hometown athlete who made it from Bridgeton High to the NFL. He joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 draft out of Florida A&M and is under a three-year contract that public trackers place at about $9 million, with roughly $6.2 million guaranteed.

Bell has filled a rotational safety role and contributed on special teams for Dallas, which makes the arrest more than a personal legal issue for the Cowboys. It could affect roster planning in a secondary that values depth and versatility, especially if the NFL opens a review under its personal conduct and substance policies. No league discipline had been announced as of Sunday.
For Cumberland County, the case lands differently than a routine pro sports headline. Bridgeton, the county’s principal city, has long claimed Bell as one of its highest-profile athletes, and his name now sits in the uneasy space between local pride and a criminal case in Texas.
