Bridgeton woman killed after Tesla runs red light in Upper Deerfield
A 38 year old Bridgeton woman was killed Sunday evening when a Tesla failed to stop at a red light and struck her vehicle at an Upper Deerfield intersection. The crash highlights intersection safety and enforcement concerns for Cumberland County residents, and authorities are continuing an investigation.

A fatal two vehicle crash in Upper Deerfield on December 21 claimed the life of 38 year old Yerlimari Quinones of Bridgeton, New Jersey State Police said. The collision occurred shortly before 5:55 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 553 and County Road 552 when a northbound Tesla did not stop for a red traffic signal, made a right turn, and struck a westbound Honda, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan.
The Honda was operated by a 33 year old man from Bridgeton and carried multiple passengers, one of whom was Quinones. The Tesla was being driven by a 72 year old woman from Vineland. The Tesla sustained only minor damage and its driver reported no injuries. No charges had been filed as of publication, and state police said the agency is investigating the circumstances surrounding the red light violation.
The crash closed the intersection for cleanup and response, creating traffic delays during evening hours and drawing emergency services from local fire and rescue units. For residents who travel County Road 553 and County Road 552, the collision underscores risks at signalized intersections where red light running can produce severe outcomes even at moderate speeds. Families of the deceased now face the immediate emotional and financial consequences that follow a traffic fatality, including funeral expenses and potential loss of household income.
Beyond the personal toll, fatal crashes also carry broader economic costs for a community through emergency response, medical care and lost productivity. Local officials and traffic engineers will likely review whether additional measures at the intersection are warranted, including signal timing adjustments, enforcement emphasis or visibility improvements.
State police continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as part of the investigation. Residents with information about the crash are encouraged to contact New Jersey State Police, and drivers are reminded to obey traffic signals and exercise extra caution at county intersections.
