ICE Arrests Cuban Sex Offender Upon Release From Bridgeton Prison
ICE agents intercepted Alvaro Tuero, a Cuban national with child sex offense convictions, the moment he walked out of a Bridgeton state prison on March 6.
Federal immigration agents were waiting at the gates of a state prison in Bridgeton on March 6 when Alvaro Modesto Tuero Castaneda walked out, taking the Union City man into custody before he could leave the facility's grounds.
ICE Newark officers arrested Tuero, a Cuban national, immediately upon his release, describing him as a "serial criminal" with a conviction record that includes sexually assaulting a child under 13, lewdness, endangering the welfare of a child through sexual conduct, burglary, and parole violations.
His most recent brush with the New Jersey courts came on Oct. 25, 2024, when he was sentenced in Hudson County for endangering the welfare of a child through sexual acts and for violating a condition of a special sentence tied to that offense. New Jersey Department of Corrections records show the child endangerment offense itself occurred on Feb. 17, 2023, and produced a three-year sentence. A separate violation offense dated March 10, 2023 carried a maximum term of 365 days.
Tuero's criminal history in New Jersey stretches back at least to 2018, when he was arrested for violating the terms of his Meghan's Law supervision, according to a Jersey Journal report from that time.
He remains in federal custody following the arrest.
