Millville Man Frederic Acevedo, 42, Killed in Vineland Hit-and-Run
Frederic Acevedo, 42, of Millville died at Cooper University Hospital after being struck by a blue Ford Mustang near East Sherman and South Lincoln avenues in Vineland.
Frederic Acevedo, a 42-year-old Millville man, died at Cooper University Hospital in Camden on Sunday after being struck by a vehicle in a pre-dawn hit-and-run at the intersection of East Sherman Avenue and South Lincoln Avenue in Vineland on March 7.
Vineland police were called to the scene at 5:57 a.m. after Acevedo was found struck in the roadway. According to investigators, a blue 2013 Ford Mustang driven by Karolina Ortiz-Angel, 21, of Bridgeton had been traveling eastbound on East Sherman Avenue toward Lincoln when Ortiz-Angel saw a pedestrian in her lane. She swerved and, believing she had not made contact, stayed at the scene briefly before leaving after not seeing the pedestrian on the road.
Vineland police later located and stopped the Mustang. Officers found damage to the vehicle consistent with evidence recovered at the crash scene. Acevedo was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he died the following day from his injuries. Ortiz-Angel was not hurt.

Police issued Ortiz-Angel two motor vehicle citations: leaving the scene of a collision causing death, and failing to report a collision. As of Monday morning, no criminal charges had been filed, though the Vineland Police Department's traffic unit confirmed the investigation is continuing. Officer Anthony Capelli is leading the probe.
